4 Tips on Styling up with 1950’s Costumes for Christmas Party

The 1950’s was one of the most iconic decades when it comes to fashion. Cute polka dots, vibrant shades, smart midi-dresses, voluminous skirts and glamorous shapes are some of the hallmark style statements of the 50’s fashion.

Vibrant swing dresses

Swing dresses in bright colors are one of the most iconic wears of the 1950’s. The 50’s damsels swore by polka dots and one would find these cute dots in almost every female wear from the decade. Pleated skirts with petticoats

1950’s fashion was incomplete without puffy skirts. No, the skirts were not fluffy themselves. The 50’s beauties mostly preferred pleated skirts. Actually, it’s the stylish vintage petticoat that was used to create the magnificent puff. So, if you want to don that sweet puffy style for your holiday party, get a fluffy vintage petticoat for your pleated skirt.

Petticoats made from frothy chiffon or multiple net layers would be the one you would be looking for. Choose a bright shade like yellow, pink or green- matching with your skirt. You can pair up the skirt with a turtle-neck tight sweater. In regards to skirt length, skirts up till mid-calf will be the most appropriate for the 50’s look.

You can also use the petticoat underneath your swing dress to create the glam puffy statement.

Mind the accessories

No 1950’s costume is complete without the signature accessories of the decade. Scarves, especially polka dot scarves were really popular. The 50’s women loved their scarves and used to use them as headband or waistbands, apart from tying them around the neck.
